1. willow bark extract
When it comes to acne, the key is to treat your skin with GENTLE and nourishing ingredients. Your skin is already irritated by the presence of red, swollen acne. Willow bark extract contains an extremely effective acne-fighting compound called salicylic acid. This is actually one of the most common ingredients in commercial acne-fighting products, but the salicylic acid used in these products is very harsh on your skin and can cause dry patches. Willow bark extract makes use of this key ingredient in a more gentle way, fighting acne while minimizing irritation to your skin.
2. Coconut oil
One of the most common misconceptions about fighting acne is that oil = evil. The truth is that your skin NEEDS oil to maintain a healthy balance. Stripping your face of oils will cause your sebaceous glands to go into overdrive and produce too much oil. Properly nourished, healthy skin has oil, even people who struggle with acne and oily skin will make their issues worse by constantly eliminating oils from their skin. A lot of oil-free products are worse for your acne, this because they contain silicone, which acts like an oil but is not healthy for your skin or body. Coconut Oil contains medium chain triglycerides (MCT's), which are toxic to the acne bacteria that feeds on it, helping to kill the bacteria that is the very source of acne.
3. honeysuckle extract
Honeysuckle extract is very astringent, antioxidant, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory. Acne is an infection that causes inflammation of this skin so honeysuckle's anti-inflammatory properties will work wonders to reduce the redness and swelling that makes acne such a problem. That's a lot of skin-clearing and nourishing power! It's also very gentle on the skin and can provide some protection from sunburn.
4. green tea extract
Green tea extract is very high in antioxidants which have the power to improve your skin in so many ways. Antioxidants are another great way to fight inflammation with the added benefits of anti-aging and scar-reduction. Many people with severe acne suffer from scarring caused by acne. Green tea extract is healing and soothing to skin damaged by the effects of acne.
5. lavender essential oil
Lavender is perhaps most well known for being soothing and calming. It's not just soothing to your mind and body, but to your skin as well. Lavender essential oil soothes irritated skin while fighting the bacteria that causes acne. This super-ingredient is astringent and very useful for refining the skin's texture as well as reducing the size of pores. Unlike some essential oils, one of the best things about lavender oil is that it's gentle enough to apply directly to the effected area of your skin.
6. lemongrass essential oil
Lemongrass is one of the most anti-bacterial essential oils you can find. This is great news since acne is caused by bacteria. Kill the bacteria and you make great progress in stopping acne for good. Lemongrass is VERY powerful and potent so be sure to always dilute it when applying it to your skin. Using a carrier oil such as olive oil, sesame oil or coconut oil is a great way to take advantage of the benefits of lemongrass, without hurting your skin. For 1-quarter cup (4oz) of carrier oil, you can safely use 3 drops of lemongrass essential oil.
7. tea-tree essential oil
Number seven is not likely to surprise anyone. Tea-tree oil is probably the most commonly-know acne fighting ingredient, and for good reason. It has been used for thousands of years for it's natural antibiotic and anti-microbial properties. The oils derived from the flowers of the melaleuca tree are well know for being very gentle on skin and effective for fighting acne.
